The previous 12 months saw both consolidation
and attrition in our marketplace. While this year is expected
to be demanding, we anticipate the appearance of some green
shoots of recovery during the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2010.
Your business plays a pivotal role in VERCO's sustained
prominence in the office furniture market and we are grateful
for your support.
This month's v-Zine focuses on two designs in a series
of substantial new seating offers being made throughout
the Spring.
You can probably guess where Mesh got
its name, but Jack and Jill may prove challenging!
Watch out for more seating launches over forthcoming months.
A number of major contracts are underway for end users
such as BT, Gordon Brothers, Invitrogen, Microsoft, Nike,
Fasthosts, G E Healthcare, Renault and a dynamic new Biochemistry
Dept. for Oxford
University's Science Faculty.
Find out more about how Allitec tackled the world-famous
university's needs with a mix of VERCO designs including
Oblique
desking and Pop
seating for administration areas, complemented by white
tables for restaurant and breakout areas.
And hard on the heels of a re-design of Reception at High
Wycombe comes a review of our Showrooms. More below but
of course, do come, look and see for yourself!
And don't forget, if you have news for us, do let us know
by emailing vzine@verco.co.uk

With
the Reception area suitably refreshed post-
a major design refurbishment, our HQ's Showrooms
have been next up for an update.
On this occasion, the emphasis
has been on reprioritising our offer visually.
Rather than renew fixtures and fittings, we
analysed and determined which elements of our
ranges act best as focal points and which function
complementarily as a backdrop and landscape.
The result better accentuates
the aesthetic appeal of VERCO furniture individually
and collectively.
So - next time you are with
us, do ask to be shown round. |

Mesh backs to chair are nothing new but
they tend be out of the budget range of many.
This seemed unreasonable hence new Mesh - and
a chair that could not be more aptly named.
This good looking and very comfortable
operator chair couples generous levels of upholstery
to sophisticated engineering and does it all at
a realistic price point.
A smooth, synchronised under-seat
mechanism provides correct dynamic posture support
while simple finger-tip adjustments ensure perfect
posture is achievable from the seated position.
Users seek customer solutions and mesh delivers.
|
|
|
|
| |
The option of seat depth adjustment and
height adjustable arms enables the chair to be ‘tailored’
to any requirement. Its stylish mesh back provides responsive
support adaptable to each user, with adjustable lumbar support
as standard on all chairs while the upholstered seat offers
high levels of comfort and an always welcome opportunity to
splash some colour into the office.
All Mesh chairs are manufactured under the
stringent BS EN ISO 9001:2000 Quality Assurance Standards
and BS EN ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System,
ensuring a solution which is as robust and enduring as it
is pleasing to sit in. |

A
simple trip to fetch water may have proved too
much for the nursery rhyme characters, but this
funky duo is made of sterner stuff.
Ready to do wonders with any
restaurant, café or bistro area, Jack
and Jill may be minimalist in design terms,
but they make a strong visual impact thanks
to the special material sourced by VERCO.
A chrome wire frame option is complemented by
a two-tone shell manufactured from a new moulded
polyurethane foam called Tech® that’s
developed to be completely self supporting.
|
|
|
| |
This clever
material removes the need for any internal metallic structure,
its high density material (600 – 700Kg/m3) enabling
very slim mouldings to be achieved with good strength characteristics.
Unlike plastic, Tech® enables different thicknesses of
shell to be moulded in the same piece, freeing designers to
be more adventurous and innovative.
For those still concerned about that trip down the hill, Jack
and Jill have high shock resistance (much higher
than traditional rigid structural PU) while maintaining good
elasticity in terms of seating comfort and high scratch resistance.
Both products comply to BS 5852:2006 to ignition source 5.
These shells have great eye appeal. Always pure and clean
white on the inside, external faces can be specified with
the option of one of nine modern colours, bringing additional
visual interest and variation to neutral environments.
Jack and Jill provide stylish multi-purpose
seating to cover a multitude of different needs, with the
option of three elegant frame styles, including a stacking
four legged version so they are not only versatile but practical
too! |

A major new component in Oxford University's 15
year re-development programme of its Science Area,
the award-winning £49m Department of Biochemistry
building incorporates Oblique
desking, Pop
task seating, and meeting and café tables
selected from the VERCO workplace range by project
furniture consultants, Allitec.
The distinctive 12,000 sq m facility by Hawkins/Brown
Architects homes a large open atrium with work
and breakout spaces designed to enable openness
and transparency to establish a collaborative
environment for 300 lecturers, researchers and
students previously housed in separate buildings
across the University's Science Area.
Glass plays a major role in resolving the building’s
core design aims. The glass exterior enables laboratories
and researchers to be visible from the outside
while coloured glass fins located throughout cast
changing patterns of light while solar cells on
the roof as well as provide a significant part
of the building’s electricity.
|
|
|
|
| |
|
At
its centre, a 400 sq m naturally ventilated,
timber clad atrium opens five floors of breakout
areas and open-plan workspaces dispersed to
different levels. Allitec worked closely with
Hawkins\Brown to generate innovative ideas for
furniture solutions for offices and meeting
rooms
“Critically, these solutions focused on
the need to be cost effective but also sympathetic
to the design concepts of the building,”
said Hawkins\Brown associate director, Morag
Morrison.
Supported by principal furniture partner, VERCO,
Allitec successfully added to both practical
and aesthetic design aims.
|
|
|
| |
Complemented
by its Pop
task seating, VERCO’s Oblique
desking range was selected as the base solution to office
areas, its clean lines with beech veneer tops on white frames
lending a crispness and accessibility to the environment.
|
| |
| |
The theme is echoed in the building restaurant
and break out areas where white tables specially
designed for the contract have been supplied by
VERCO.
The Biochemistry Department at Oxford University
is the largest in the UK and is internationally
renowned for its research on the understanding
of DNA, cell growth and immunity. A second phase
will see the new Biochemistry building extended
for another 500 researchers.
|
|
|
|
| |
The
building is the first stage of a major redevelopment of
the Science Area. When linked to the Radcliffe Observatory
Quarter development, it will represent hundreds of millions
of pounds worth of investment in the infrastructure of the
University of Oxford.
Biochemistry Department associate head Denis O’Driscoll
said: “One of the challenges about this project was
to procure items fitting out spaces that were not only acceptable
to our prospective building users but also complemented
the design aspirations for the building.
“Allitec understood our aspirations and were flexible
enough to supply new ideas and new products to support this.”
